Origins of Chia Nan University of Pharmacy and Science (CNU)

Starting life with just 300 students as Chia Nan Junior College of Pharmacy, CNU was founded in 1966 by Mr. Chen Wang. We quickly achieved an excellent reputation for training pharmacists, and as we expanded into the fields of health promotion and management, our student population continued to grow, enabling us to develop into one of the three biggest institutions of technology in Taiwan. In 1996, we were upgraded by the Ministry of Education to become Chia Nan College of Pharmacy and Science, and in 2000 were formally accredited with full university status, becoming Chia Nan University of Pharmacy and Science. CNU is now a leading educator of professionals in the fields of pharmacy, health care and science, with approximately 15,000 students. More than 120,000 students have graduated from our programs, and are currently making their mark in a wide range of professions. Our alumni are highly sought after by industry, and are well known for their contribution to society. 

Teaching and Learning

We currently offer four-year Bachelor’s degree programs, two-year senior college programs and Master’s degree programs. Courses are offered among the five colleges: The College of Pharmacy and Science, the College of Human Ecology, the College of Humanities and Applied Information, the College of Sustainable Environment and the College of Recreation and Health Management. We have 23 departments, one cross-disciplinary undergraduate degree program and one independent graduate institute.

Faculty

CNU has approximately 500 full-time faculty members engaged in teaching, research, service and counseling. They are rich in practical experience, with the majority having worked previously in industry. As of June 2014, 90.7 percent of our faculty are assistant professors or above, which is by far the highest rate among private universities of technology in Taiwan. We also have 67 full professors, which is the second highest number for a private university of technology in Taiwan. The academic qualifications of our faculty place us at the forefront of technological universities in Taiwan, with 65.4 percent having Ph.D. degrees. We also employ elite professionals from industry to team teach with full-time faculty, in order to pass on their professional practical skills, and expand avenues to employment for students.
