Department of Applied Informatics and Multimedia

Affiliated with College of Smart Living

Introduction

Originally established as the Department of Information Technology and later the Department of Multimedia and Game Development, we will officially become the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Multimedia Applications in 2027. This transformation is in response to the government's AI industry development policy and the Digital Nation program. We place heavy emphasis on industry-academia cooperation and integration. Aligned with the rapid development of artificial intelligence and smart multimedia, our collaborations focus on the cross-disciplinary integration of AI applications, digital content design, and the cultivation of talent.

Students graduating from our program will have received thorough training in the following fields:

  • The integration of UI/UX interface design, XR (extended reality) development, AI voice and visual recognition, smart field interactive construction, cloud and network services, smart IoT technology, and mobile APP development, to cultivate comprehensive smart interactive application talent.
  • The integration of digital content design, 3D virtual scene production, generative AI-assisted creation, visual design, audio production, animation special effects and post-production, and character IP design, to cultivate talent in smart content and creative design.
  • The integration of digital storytelling and creative design, social media marketing and big data analysis, E-commerce operations, and AI-driven marketing, to cultivate professionals in new media content development and digital marketing.

Teaching and Learning

Adhering to the educational philosophy of "cross-disciplinary integration" and "innovative application," our department places heavy emphasis on learning by doing. In response to changes in industry structure and AI technology trends, we integrate professional industry demands to cultivate cross-disciplinary practical talent equipped with AI application and multimedia design skills. Theory and practice are equally emphasized in the curriculum to cultivate students' professional knowledge in creative design and smart applications. We also focus on team communication and collaboration, providing frequent opportunities to apply these abilities in the discovery, analysis, and solving of problems.

The main areas of curriculum focus are as follows:

  • Digital interactive and immersive media: Immersive technology includes the metaverse, XR (AR/VR/MR) applications, and virtual-real integration, with an increasing demand for UI/UX interface designers, 3D scene designers, and interactive experience designers. We cooperate with industry to develop diverse digital interactive models, integrating game engines, digital twins, and immersive experience content to train highly sought-after high-end interactive technology designers.
  • Multimedia and generative content: Based on the potential of AIGC technology in the digital economy, we offer courses in AI-generated content creation, digital storytelling, UI/UX design, audio production, 3D animation, and social media big data to cultivate students' cross-professional development abilities in smart content and culture and creativity. Employing faculty with expertise in both information technology and design, we train students to utilize AI tools for efficient content production, integrating video post-production and virtual production to develop highly competitive multimedia products, meeting the government's drive for the smart content industry.
  • Smart networking and platform integration: Aligned with the trends of digital transformation and cloud computing, we offer courses in smart IoT applications, cloud and network services, Python programming, big data analysis, network security, E-commerce, and SEO. Our goal is to enhance AIoT device development and smart scenario solution technologies, cultivating students as smart application engineers capable of cross-disciplinary system integration.
